When he's caught into a corner with nowhere to run though, he is more than able to fight with his abilities, although he is not as well trained as other benders in his elemental class.

Personality::
Geru Hakaido is a charming, outgoing, and incredibly weasely young man from the depths of Republic City. He's got enough contacts and friends to run a small army, (as well as enough women wrapped around his finger to run his own brothel, as he's a bit of a horndog,) and that's exactly what he's going for--to help provide for Zitka's cause of the Balance.
He is so dedicated to the cause, that it boarderlines on clear insanity--he has been known to shoot those who have defected from the cause...along with most of their immediate friends and family. Hakaido is entirely mad, and would sacrifice anything to ensure that both Zitka and the Balance are properly maintained.
He is under the illusion that the Summoner Priestess is in love with him--although this couldn't be further than the truth, as she loves nobody. Geru is blind to this obviousness, in constant denial of it, and will willingly follow the cause into a woodchipper if Zitka told him to. Cunning, Crazy, Charming, and downright out of his mind, Geru Hakaido is one man you don't want to cross if you want to live.
Good Qualities: Geru is able to make friends with absolutely incredible ease. This allows him many connections to a wide variety of people in many places. He is also gifted with a silver tongue, and an incredible amount of charm, which allows him to wiggle out of tight situations.
Bad Qualities: Hakaido is an absolutely mad zealot for the cause of Balance. If you drive him to a certain point, he will actually go into a frenzy, and become violent and extremely dangerous. Geru is completely obsessed with Zitka, and will do almost anything to please her. He also tends to get himself into trouble, and is occasionally lazy with his jobs.
History:
Formerly, Geru Hakaido worked for Cabbage Corp, one of the leading industrial producers in Republic City, as an engineer consultant. His knowledge and skills in the mechanical applications, earned him a great deal of wealth and power...and with that, excellent connections to high places.
But, when Cabbage Corp fell, so did all of his former life, and he was forcefully removed from his home in the Upper District. Lost and abandoned by nearly everybody he'd known, Hakaido fled the city in search for a better life, though never forgetting all of the secrets of those he had once called his friends...
Eventually, Geru began to wander the world outside the City, where he accidentally ran into Zitka Sahd at the White Lotus Plains.
Zitka, who was staying there shortly after her rebirth in order to collect her thoughts, was (as always) cold at first to the young man, but after a great deal of persistence nose bleeds, poured drinks on his body, and verbal abuse, he finally grew on her.
Zitka eventually began to open up to Geru, telling him about her life and experiences in full detail. They became extremely close friends, and he pledged his life in dedication to Balance. Once this was done, he was trained in the ways of those who would protect the Balance...and he became the right hand of the force.
Returning to Republic City, Geru Hakaido opened up several chains of hotels, (The Mirage Hotel and Casino lines, which are all five star and popular visiting sites for the best and the worst of the world's travelers.) Upon regaining his wealth, he was mocked for his previous failures and humiliating evacuation from his home by the rich community--until he began blackmailing them.
Yes, Hakaido's sphere of influence has grown incredibly large over the years, and he uses this all to his advantage...for the growth of his own power, means the growth and success of the almighty Balance...just as his darling Zitka would want.
